20th Annual World Dance Showcase

Our popular annual showcase gives you the opportunity to travel the globe from the comfort of your Publick Playhouse seat, when professional troupes perform dances from a panoply of cultural traditions. Breathtaking costumes, authentic music, and the enchanting grace of the dancers will make you feel like a world traveler.

Auditions for the 20th Annual World Dance Showcase

Bring your dance heritage to life with pride on the Publick Playhouse stage! Earn cash awards as you display the beauty and excitement of World Dance. Auditions for World Dance Showcase will be held on Sunday, January 9, 2022 from 10 am to 6 pm. Snow date is Sunday, January 16, from 10 am to 6 pm. Performers of traditional, culture-specific dance styles (ages 16 years and older) may apply. Individuals and groups are eligible to audition. Applications will be accepted until 5 pm on Friday, January 7, 2022.

2022 World Dance Showcase Adjudicators:



Miriam Phillips is currently Guest Lecturer in the MA Ethnochoreology and BA Contemporary Dance programs at the University of Limerick’s Irish World Academy of Music and Dance in Ireland where she is also completing a PhD in Arts Practice. In addition to serving on the dance faculties of the University of Maryland, Wesleyan, Cal Arts, Sonoma State, and Mills College, she also ran the flamenco dance school and company, Azafrán Flamenco in Northern California for 14 years. She has lived, researched, and performed in India, Spain, Israel, Guinea-West Africa, and Ireland, and has published these experiences in various journals.

A native of the Republic of Georgia, Irina Tsikurishvili is a 58-time Helen Hayes Award Nominee and has won the award 14 times for her outstanding choreography and acting. Ms.Tsikurishvili has taught at Georgetown University, where she choreographed Lysistrata. She continues to run intensive movement workshops and train Synetic cast members. With her husband Paata, she is the co-founder of Synetic Theater and co-founder of Stanislavsky Theater Studio. Paata & Irina were named Washingtonians of the Year in 2013. Irina Graduated from Chabukiani National Ballet Academy in Tbilisi Georgia and holds BFA in Performing Arts.

39th Annual Choreographers Showcase


Gala Performance: Saturday, January 22, 2022 at 8 pm
At the Prince George's Publick Playhouse


The Choreographers Showcase Returns to the Publick Playhouse, its first home! Apply to audition your original compositions before nationally recognized adjudicators Gesel Mason and Peter DiMuro. Present your work in concert, receive cash prizes and the Audience Choice Award on the day of the performance.

Auditions will be held in the Publick Playhouse, on Saturday, November 20th and Sunday, November 21th from 10 am-6 pm; gala performance will be held on Saturday, January 22nd, 2022, at 8 pm.
Jurors
Gesel Mason is Artistic Director for Gesel Mason Performance Projects and Associate Professor of Dance and Choreography at the University of Texas at Austin. She was a member of Liz Lerman Dance Exchange and Ralph Lemon/Cross Performance Projects.

Peter DiMuro is Executive Artistic Director of The Dance Complex in Cambridge, MA, and leads Peter DiMuro/Public Displays of Motion (PDM). Peter was Artistic Director of Dance Exchange 2003-2008, capping a 15-year history with the company.

Uplift: Inspirational Dance Festival  


Presented each year in March

Experience a daily dose of uplifting messages during the Uplift: Inspirational Dance Festival. With the theme “What the World Needs Now”, local dancers encourage community healing through creative movement. Visit the Arts PG Parks Facebook page for a daily video and message and see the full program live on Saturday, May 8, 2021, 3 pm.  

Prince George's Best Dance Crew Competition

The 2021 PGBDC Competition was canceled and will return in 2022
Prince George’s Best Dance Crew is an annual distinctive dance competition that provides young dancers the opportunity to showcase the artistry and technique of the many styles and flairs of Hip Hop dance.
