Motors Unit

The Maryland-National Capital Park Police, Prince George’s County Division Motorcycle Unit was formed in 1975. The Motors Unit is a highly visible and mobile force used for selective duties; these include traffic enforcement, emergency calls for service, assistance to patrol officers, funeral and parade escorts, community events and school displays.

Officers assigned to the Motors Unit must successfully complete a two-week course of instruction about procedures, and operation of police motorcycles. The training is physically and mentally demanding and has a 60% failure rating. The Maryland-National Capital Park Police, Prince George’s County Division utilizes the Harley-Davidson Electra Glide police motorcycle. This vehicle provides reliable maneuverability in congested areas and restricted spaces with the required speed and handling of a police motorcycle.
