Final Report of Solid Waste Transfer Station Planning Study
The Final Report on the Solid Waste Transfer Station Planning Study for Prince George's County, dated June 3, 2008, documents the process and results of a study designed to identify a site for a transfer station that would meet technical requirements and minimize any adverse impacts to neighboring communities. Integral to the process was an effective public participation process to gain public input on siting criteria and selection of a site for a solid waste transfer station.
The purpose of the Gershman, Brickner & Bratton, Inc. (GBB) Transfer Station Siting Study, dated June 2, 2005, was to conduct a comprehensive evaluation of suitable sites for a municipal solid waste transfer station in Prince George's County. It was necessary to site a transfer station in a central location in order to collect solid waste from urban areas using small trucks with a transfer to larger semi-trailers, railroad cars, or barges. From the transfer station, solid waste is transported to landfills or other distant disposal facilities.
